Each year, an average of 38 children die from hyperthermia after being left in a hot car. We’ve chatted with hyperthermia expert Jan Null, we promote awareness on every social media outlet we can find, we talk relentlessly about simple ways to prevent this tragedy.
Urban kids have all the fun! At least if you’ve got kids like mine who love big machines. When we lived in a rural area and traveled, getting to and from museums and parks was half the fun of the trip. We rode on subways, light rail, city buses, and even ferries — they were all part of the adventure. Now that we live in a big city, we get to ride these awesome vehicles to get to doctors appointments, school, play dates, and even the park!

The Advance Embrace DLX with SensorSafe comes with a receiver which plugs directly into the vehicle and a smart chest clip which is on the car seat itself to alert caregivers if a child is in the seat.
As a CPST, over the years I’ve had more than a few parents contact me with a tale of bodily function woe. Their potty training children have had unspeakable accidents. A bout of car sickness left the seat looking like a sea of cottage cheese. In one memorable case, a skunk sprayed the seat. (And in case you’re wondering, if a skunk sprays the seat, you’re pretty much out of luck.)
Everything you purchase comes with a manual, whether it is a lawn mower or a DVD player. When you are preparing for a child, multiply that by a bouncer, a high chair, a stroller and a swing. Chances are, you read them to know how to put them together and their basic function.
