Our friends at Cosco have been busy lately introducing a slew of new convertible and multimode car seats to fit a variety of children at a variety of reasonable price points. The Comfy Convertible is another new model; in short, it’s a Cosco Apt 50 with a VERY plush cover and plush inserts. Let’s take a closer look.
It’s nearly impossible to introduce the Baby Trend PROtect Sport Convertible without mentioning its roots. The new PROtect line of convertibles: Sport, Premiere, and Protect Elite, are versions of a seat that some of us used to know and love: the First Years True Fit.
Baby Trend took many of the features that made the True Fit a good value and added their own flavor to the seat. Lower anchor connectors, crotch buckle and chest clip, splitter plate, clear labelling, and an updated cover that’s a big hit at my house!

Normally Graco surprises the world by releasing seats to stores, so even technicians hear about them after they’ve been spotted on a shelf. The Extend2Fit, however, has been eagerly awaited for many months. It’s compact, easy to install, easy to use, 50 pound rear facing seat that has extra leg room for kids, and under the $200 mark? Many technicians swooned at the description.

When asked for a recommendation for an inexpensive convertible car seat, one of the biggest go-to options are typically the Safety 1st Guide 65 vs Evenflo SureRide (also the Evenflo Titan 65). Both of these seats are comparably priced and will last quite a while both rear and forward facing. Even lower priced options can be found in the comparison between the Cosco Scenera NEXT and Cosco Apt50.
Recently, Graco has released several new convertible seats to the market, adding a wider array of convertible and multi-use restraint options to its lineup. Featuring sleek lines, Crypton fabric, and great colors and patterns, the Clek Foonf and Clek Fllo are trendy, fun seats that appeal to many. With a starting weight limit of 14 lbs. though, these sweet seats cannot be used from birth. With the recently released infant-thingy, an insert that can be used with both the Foonf and Fllo starting at 5 lbs. and 19″, the Clek convertibles are now an option for those who choose to skip the rear facing only seat.

The Cosco Apt40 has been around for some time now and made a name for itself as a great budget seat. It had a major limitation in that once outgrown rear facing, it was outgrown forward facing as well. The new Cosco Apt50 has fixed that issue. Let’s see how the Apt50 stacks up its predecessor.
