The Apt fit all our testers very well, even our newborn Huggable Images doll had a bit of room below her shoulders on the lowest harness slot. Our 3-year-old doll even fit in it rear facing still with quite a bit of room above her head.
Forward facing, the Apt only has a 40 lb weight limit with 13″ top harness slots. This makes this seat almost unusable forward facing, if it’s being used to its full potential rear facing.
The Apt 40 is very easy to install both rear and forward facing with either lower anchors or the seat belt. Most will need to be installed with pool noodles, rolled towel, or using the tips on the noodle-less install found here.
If using the Apt 40 for a newborn or small infant, with the harness in the lowest position, the lap portion of the harness will need to be rerouted so it is short enough to accommodate such a little one. This is something that is overlooked by many users of this seat.
Overall the Cosco Apt 40 is a great inexpensive seat for rear facing from birth. As stated earlier, the biggest downfall is that it is virtually useless forward facing. It will last most children until at least 3-4 yrs, then can be replaced with either a longer lasting rear facing convertible seat or a combination seat that transitions from forward facing to booster.
The Cosco Apt 40 only comes in one model, but with several different seat patterns. There is now an Apt 50 available as well! You can find the Apt 40 on Amazon.com. Thank you to Huggable Images for providing us with the dolls used in this review. To find out more, check out our review.
