Issue

Clek Inc. (Clek) and Transport Canada are informing the public of a non-compliance for certain Clek Oobr booster seats that have noire colour fabric. Some of the fabric used on the affected models may not conform to the flammability requirements indicated in the Motor Vehicle Restraint Systems and Booster Seats Safety Regulations.

Safety Risk

Transport Canada’s compliance testing program identified this concern and notified the company. The company determined that some of the noire colour fabric used on Oobr booster seat models with manufacturing dates between April 1, 2016 and November 22, 2016 may have a burn rate exceeding the regulatory requirement. In the case of a vehicle fire, the fabric cover may not self-extinguish or may burn too quickly, accelerating the spread of the fire.

Company Actions

Clek revised their testing criteria and protocols to monitor the testing of fabric used on all future lots of material. Clek will contact all registered owners of the affected seats and provide instructions on how to obtain the replacement seat bottom fabric cover for the affected restraint systems, free of charge. Clek will provide the same instructions and free fabric replacement for non-registered owners and users of affected car seats who contact the company regarding this notice.
Only the Oobr model using the noire colour fabric that have the dates of manufacture listed above are affected by this notice. Other Oobr models are not affected by this notice.

Consumer Recourse

All owners and users of an Oobr seat in the noire fabric colour that have a date of manufacture between April 1, 2016 and November 22, 2016 should contact Clek by email or by phone as soon as possible to obtain a replacement seat bottom fabric cover. The affected seats should not be returned to retailers or the company. Clek advises that owners and users can continue using their booster seat until they receive their replacement seat bottom fabric cover.
