Since 1970, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been a driving force behind improvements to safety standards for automobiles. The agency is constantly working to move safety standards forward and help keep all of us safer on the roads.
If you’ve read either of our travel posts: Leaving on a Jet Plane or On the Road Again, traveled with your Littles, or even pondered traveling with your Littles, you might know that travelling with your Littles can be nerve-wracking.
We took our first flight with a Little when my oldest daughter was 5 months old. Many nights before our flight took off, I lay awake, stressing about logistics. I was new to installing car seats, to that point, I’d only installed seats under the watchful eye of a CSPT friend. I wasn’t sure I could install her seat correctly in a strange car all by myself.
Though booster seats don’t have as many moving parts as a harnessed car seat, there’s a large range of features and fit on the market. Choosing the right one can be a real challenge! For my booster rider, we need a booster that’s fairly padded and has a high top shoulder belt guide position since my kiddo is fairly tall and quite slim.
Booster seats serve one primary purpose: to place the car’s seat belt over 3 strong points of a child’s body. A properly fitting booster will sit low over the hips and across the center of the shoulder to spread the possible force from a crash over these strong areas.
Graco has a few convertible seats that we find ourselves recommending on a fairly regular basis. They’re all basically the same seat: The Size4Me, MySize and Fit4Me and the similar Head Wise. These seats all have a long-lasting range of fit to child; they rear face until the child’s head is within one inch of the top of the red handle at the headrest — when that headrest is fully extended.
When Graco announced the 4Ever 4-in-1 car seat, we were thrilled to have the chance to take a close look at it. It turns out to be a seat that works well in all 4 modes and we’re happy to list it on our Recommended Seats page. When the 4Ever’s new cousin, the Milestone, arrived on the scene, we were just as excited about taking a look under the hood!
When Britax announced their Click Tight technology, the CPST world was all ears. Was it possible that almost all guesswork could be removed from car seat installation? Could a new system make misuse nearly impossible?
Day three in Vegas dawned and our intrepid media team greeted the dawn with a mighty series of snores. This expo business is amazing but can really wear a girl out!
We started our day at the expo in the line ride for Starbucks, where so many ABC Kids attendees were in need of pastries and coffee that the cold case was nearly empty. Finally, coffee in hand, we were ready to meet another set of manufacturers and see the latest innovations in the car seat world.
