It’s nearly impossible to introduce the Baby Trend PROtect Sport Convertible without mentioning its roots. The new PROtect line of convertibles: Sport, Premiere, and Protect Elite, are versions of a seat that some of us used to know and love: the First Years True Fit.
Baby Trend took many of the features that made the True Fit a good value and added their own flavor to the seat. Lower anchor connectors, crotch buckle and chest clip, splitter plate, clear labelling, and an updated cover that’s a big hit at my house!
Our second day at the ABC Kids Expo was mostly a foray into the world of rear facing only seats, with some combination seats and boosters thrown in for good measure. We also started increasing the sizes of the coffee drinks we’re consuming to combat our fatigue.

Since 2009, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), has been annually releasing their booster ratings, based primarily on fit of the 6 year old dummy, and, as we all know, fit is the best indication of performance. No matter how much bling your booster has, if it doesn’t place the seatbelt properly on your child, it can’t do its job.
Booster seats serve one primary purpose: to place the car’s seat belt over 3 strong points of a child’s body. A properly fitting booster will sit low over the hips and across the center of the shoulder to spread the possible force from a crash over these strong areas.
With the same news as Graco and Evenflo, Baby Trend, Inc. (Baby Trend) is recalling certain model year 2011 and 2012 TrendZ Fastback 3-in-1 child restraints, models FB60070 (Granite) and FB60408 (Jellybean), manufactured between October 2011 and July 2013. The defect involves difficulty in unlatching the harness buckle. In some cases, the buckle becomes stuck in a latched condition so that it cannot be opened by depressing the buckle’s release button.
Today, Baby Trend announced you can now leave the carry handle of their infant car seats in any locked position in the vehicle. Previously, Baby Trend required the handle locked in the down position, which required a lot of clearance to swing the handle down. This is an awesome convenience update, thanks Baby Trend!
*This seat has been discontinued* Recently I had the opportunity to check out the latest offering to the rear facing only seat market by Baby Trend: the Inertia infant car seat in the Horizon fashion. The seat itself has many similarities to Baby Trend’s popular Flex-Loc infant seat, but the base is full of new technology for Baby Trend, featuring an anti rebound bar and rigid lower anchor connectors. This seat has been discontinued.
