Recall: Maxi Cosi Pria 85

The Issue

Dorel has issued a recall for the Maxi-Cosi Pria 70, Pria 85, and Pria 85 Max convertible car seats. This recall only applices to the following scenario:  when the seat is installed in the forward facing position and secured to the car using the lap belt without also using the top tether, the seat may not adequately protect the child from head injury in the event of a crash.

Note: this recall does not apply to rear facing installations or installations where the top tether + a lap/shoulder belt are used.

The Fix

UPDATE from Maxi-Cosi: We and NHTSA have together agreed on the remedy to consumers whose car seats are affected by our voluntary recall, which includes Pria 85, Pria 85 Max, and Pria 70 convertible car seats manufactured from 2019-2021.
Registered consumers and those who contact us will receive a free repair kit, including a replacement instruction manual and labels to apply to their seats. The new manual and labels will update the forward-facing internal harness weight limit of the car seat to 65 lbs. or 49 in.
YOU MAY CONTINUE TO USE THIS CAR SEAT IN BOTH REAR-FACING MODE AND FORWARD-FACING MODE FOR CHILDREN UP TO 65 LBS. OR 49 IN. TALL, CONSISTENT WITH THE UPDATED INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND LABELS INCLUDED IN YOUR REPAIR KIT.

Summary

Dorel Juvenile Group (Dorel) is recalling certain Maxi-Cosi Pria 85 Convertible child seats. When the seat is installed in the forward facing position and secured to the car using the lap belt without also using the top tether, the seat may not adequately protect the child from head injury in the event of a crash. As such, these child seats fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 213, “Child Restraint Systems.”

Remedy

No remedy has been established at this time. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Dorel customer service at 1-877-657-9546.
