Greetings from the wild wild west, where the CSFTL Media Team has converged on the ABC Kids Expo for coverage of the latest and greatest in the car seat world. Here’s a rundown of what we saw today:
Imagine yourself seaside with blue-green water, warm tropics, and a great book in hand. Maybe you want to visit pagodas or take a float down the canals of Venice or Amsterdam. Perhaps it’s an African safari that really excites you. Having kids does not mean you need to stop traveling internationally, nor travel unsafely.
While there’s no set time or age for moving your child from a high back booster to a backless booster, we tend to suggest making this move when the child is able to sit properly all of the time.
Since not all big kids are ready for the responsibility of sitting properly without the reminder that the shoulder and head sections of the high back booster can provide, members of our Facebook group ask which boosters might last the longest or be the best value.
The Graco Nautilus 65 LX 3-in-1 car seat is a forward facing only combination seat that functions as a 5 point harness, high back booster, and backless booster.
The Graco Nautilus 65 LX/65 DLX/80 Elite 3-in-1 car seat is a forward facing only combination seat that functions as a 5 point harness, high back booster, and backless booster.
In the past we have reviewed the Graco Nautilus, but Graco has revamped the Nautilus into the Nautilus 65 LX/65 DLX/80 Elite. Instead of having the Nautilus and the Graco Argos, Graco has merged the two different seats into one seat. Our review will give you an in-depth look at this updated seat.
Though the laws in many states require a car seat or booster until children are 8 years old, the laws of physics work a little differently. Until your Big Kid can pass the Five Step Test, in many cases, the Right Seat for big kids and tweens is some type of booster.
Why? Because the lap/shoulder belt may not fit properly without a little help from a booster, even on kids between 8-12 years old.
Is the big Little in your life ready for a backless booster? Maybe your 8 year old is too tall for their high back booster or your 7 year old needs something more portable for carpooling. There are many choices when it comes to backless boosters. How do you choose which booster will work for you? Let’s narrow the options and look at some boosters that cost less than $20.
The KidFit completes the Chicco birth-to-seatbelt product line, after the KeyFit and the Nextfit. These three seats will potentially allow your child to be safely restrained until he is old and large enough for a seatbelt alone.

When Diono announced the re-release of the Diono Monterey booster, we rejoiced! The Diono Monterey is a favorite among many of the CSFTL older Littles. With a variety of both ease of use and comfort features, it’s a great option for when older children are ready to transition to a booster.
Parents want to keep their kids safe, and as CPSTs it’s our job to help them do just that. Parents often ask us to point them to the safest seat on the market. There’s no simple answer to that question: the safest seat is the one that fits your child, fits your car, and that you use correctly every time. Age, height, and weight all matter when choosing a seat that fits your little. Research shows that children under age 2, no matter their size, should be in rear facing seats, and older children need boosters until they pass the 5 step test.
